Ankara and Moscow agree to maintain the ceasefire agreement in Idlib

Yesterday, the Turkish and Russian sides agreed to preserve the agreement on the Idlib governorate, and work to not allow attacks that would harm the stability resulting from the ceasefire agreement in the governorate.

And the Turkish Anadolu Agency said: “Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin Bahs with the Russian special envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, yesterday, the developments in Syria, during their meeting at the presidential complex in the capital, Ankara.”

A statement issued by Qalan’s office indicated that the two sides agreed on the importance of continuing the ceasefire in Idlib governorate and working to prevent any provocative attacks that might harm the agreement.

The two sides stressed the need to reactivate the political process further and speed up efforts to resume the work of the Constitutional Committee, and the need to combat “terrorist” groups in order to ensure the territorial integrity of Syria, according to the statement.

The statement pointed out that the two sides stressed the importance of alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Syria by taking joint steps between them.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction with UN Resolution 2254 on Syria.

In a related context, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Unal met with a Russian delegation headed by the Russian Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev yesterday at the ministry’s headquarters in the capital, Ankara.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry indicated that the two sides discussed the latest developments in the field in Syria, the Constitutional Committee, the refugee file and the issue of their return to their country.

The de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria is witnessing a noticeable escalation of artillery and missile shelling on the cities and towns of Jabal al-Zawiya, Sahel al-Ghab and western Aleppo, which has led to dozens of civilian casualties.
