Canada denies opening “electoral” voting centers for the Assad regime on its territory
The Canadian Executive Coordinator for Syria, Gregory Galligan, denied opening centers for voting on its territory regarding the “presidential elections” that the Assad regime will carry out, stressing that the Canadian government will also not agree to open any of these centers.
“I would like to clarify that what was published on social networking sites regarding the conduct of voting for the Syrian elections is not correct,” said the coordinator Galligan, pointing out that the Assad regime did not submit an official request to open electoral centers on Canadian soil.
Many countries and political entities have declared their rejection of the election play being conducted by the Assad regime, with Russian and Iranian support, and several countries, including Turkey and Germany, have prevented elections from being held on their territory.
The French Foreign Ministry had announced, in a statement, that the presidential elections held by the Assad regime were invalid and illegal, and would not give it any political legitimacy, while politicians criticized the contradictory French position that allowed elections to be held on its territory two days ago.
The French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Agnes von der Mol, explained that France’s decision to allow the Assad regime to hold elections at its embassy in Paris, said: “As we have expressed regularly with our European partners, we are ready to support the holding of free and fair elections in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254 and under the supervision of nations “All Syrians, including the displaced, refugees and Syrians living abroad, can participate in it.”
