Turkish Presidency: Kallan and Sullivan discussed the latest developments regarding the Syrian file
Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin made a phone call with the US National Security Adviser, Jack Sullivan, on Tuesday, to discuss the latest developments in the Syrian and Libyan files.
The two sides stressed the need to strengthen the political process in Syria, noting that “concrete measures must be taken to prevent a new wave of displacement that would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Idlib.”
The office of the Turkish presidency spokesman said in a statement: “The telephone conversation lasted about an hour, during which Kalan congratulated Sullivan on assuming his new position, and discussed with him bilateral relations and regional and international issues, foremost of which is the Syrian file.”
The statement added, “Kalin and Sullivan aspire to establish a strong and sustainable cooperation model between the two countries (Turkey-America).”
He explained that the two sides “discussed the issues of Syria, Libya, the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus, Afghanistan and Karabakh, as well as the Corona pandemic and the international climate system.”
Regarding regional developments, Kalin and Sullivan agreed to accelerate the strengthening of NATO and to move towards steps that contribute to strengthening regional and global peace.
The statement stressed “the need to strengthen Turkish-American relations during the coming period, to maintain close communication on all issues, and to further activate dialogue channels for constructive cooperation between the two countries.”
He had previously called for “Ger Pedersen”, the Secretary’s Special Envoy to Syria, to accelerate the resolution of the Syrian conflict through constitutional reform or a new constitution only, through the Constitutional Committee.
