Pederson: The United Nations appreciates Turkey’s efforts to host Syrian refugees

The United Nations special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, said yesterday, Monday, in a press statement after a session of the UN Security Council on the developments of the Syrian issue, that the United Nations appreciates Turkey’s efforts in hosting the Syrian refugees.

Pedersen declared that the United Nations is grateful to Turkey for hosting the Syrian refugees, again calling for a ceasefire throughout Syria.

He indicated that a conference on humanitarian aid to Syria will be held at the end of March, stressing that the conference will also provide aid to Syrian refugees in Turkey.

He noted that the situation in Idlib, northwestern Syria, has been “relatively calm” for more than a year, warning the parties against restarting the conflict.

According to the statements of Celine Unal, the official spokeswoman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Turkey, Turkey has been hosting the largest number of refugees in the world for the past 6 years.
