The Coalition: The American position on the Syrian presidential elections is in line with the position of the opposition

The United States has warned Bashar al-Assad that it will not recognize the outcome of the upcoming Syrian presidential elections unless the vote is free and fair and supervised by the United Nations and represented by the entire Syrian community.

Abdul Majid Barakat, a member of the political committee in the coalition, told Fresh Online: “There is a clear international position regarding any step taken by the Assad regime at the level of elections, whether presidential or parliamentary, and this position is largely in line with the position and demands of the opposition regarding this file.”

He added: “The United States presented its position in many official meetings with the coalition or in its official statements, as well as a number of European countries interested in the Syrian issue.”

He explained, “It is expected that the mainstay of this position is the implementation of Resolution 2254 with regard to the four baskets and the realization of the real political transition in addition to issues related to transitional justice limited to the release of detainees, lifting the siege on besieged cities, the fate of the missing, and achieving civil peace, and this matter needs to be monitored by nations.

The United States and that the opposition have a major role in proving that these points and demands have been fulfilled for that and so far these demands largely intersect with the demands and positions of the coalition, and this is what the United States of America confirmed in the tenth anniversary of the Syrian revolution.

The UN special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, had previously confirmed that the world had failed to help the Syrian people, referring to “the extent of the suffering suffered by the Syrians in terms of injustice, poverty, death and violations,” in a speech before the Security Council via “video coverage” technology on the developments of the Syrian issue, Which coincides with the tenth anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution.
