Lebanese authorities arrest 51 Syrians trying to migrate across the sea

The General Directorate of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces announced the arrest of 51 Syrian immigrants in the north of the country, while they were trying to migrate by sea to Cyprus illegally.

The directorate said that on the fourth of this month, a force affiliated with it was able to arrest 51 Syrian migrants, including five women and seven children, who were heading to Cyprus via the sea, in the town of Anfa al-Harisha / Seashore.

The Directorate pointed out that, in interrogating them, they confessed what was attributed to them, and that they were waiting for a boat to take them from the aforementioned beach towards Cyprus, in exchange for paying $ 2,500 per person upon arrival.

The Syrian refugees in Lebanon suffer from very dire economic conditions, as the UNHCR said in October of last year, “About 90% of Syrians in Lebanon now live below the poverty line, compared to 55% in the previous year.”
