The United Nations expresses its concern about the increasing violence in Idlib

Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, said: “The international organization is concerned about the escalation of violence in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria.”

This came in a press conference yesterday, Wednesday, during which he stressed that the United Nations is deeply concerned about the ongoing hostilities in Syria and their impact on civilians.

Dujarric added, “Since last June, hostilities intensified in northwest Syria, despite the ceasefire that was reached in March 2020.”

He explained that in recent days, it was reported that attacks in the southern countryside of Idlib affected residential areas and a camp for internally displaced people, resulting in civilian casualties, noting that “there were three incidents on the sixth and seventh of this month, which resulted in the death of 4 civilians.”
At least 7 others, including women and children, were wounded.

The villages and towns of Idlib are subjected to a violent military and economic escalation by the forces of the Assad regime and Russia, which leads to an increase in the severity of the humanitarian situation in the region.
