Cavusoglu: we have sufficiently carried out our moral and humanitarian responsibilities regarding migration, and we can’t take an additional refugee burden

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stressed on Sunday that his country has carried out its moral and humanitarian responsibilities regarding migration and cannot take additional refugee burden.

During a joint press conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas in Antalya, Cavusoglu said that lessons should be learned from the Syrian refugee crisis.

Cavusoglu denied that his country had received any offer from Germany or any other country regarding allegations of keeping Afghans in Turkey, pointing out that Turkey had safely evacuated its citizens wishing to return home from Afghanistan.

Cavusoglu explained that “the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has reached alarming proportions, and that more than half of the Afghan people need urgent humanitarian assistance, stressing that nearly 10 million Afghan children are facing the threat of drought, hunger and epidemic, and that the international community must provide humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.”

Cavusoglu pointed out that more than 3.5 million people have been displaced from their places in Afghanistan, and stressed: “If the migration flow from Afghanistan reaches the level of crisis, not only will the countries of the region be affected, but everyone will be affected, including Europe.”
