The United States: Our military presence in Syria is ongoing

The US State Department confirmed that the situation that led to the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan cannot happen in Syria.

According to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, quoting a US State Department source on Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces cannot continue to fight “terrorism” or even guard tens of thousands of ISIS detainees and families.

The source pointed out that the Syrian Democratic Forces will not be able to continue fighting ISIS without American support.
The source said: “The survival of US forces in Syria is linked to the fight against ISIS, which still poses a major threat in Syria.”

The source added that ensuring that the organization’s return is prevented from reorganizing its ranks and forces requires continued work by the United States and its allies in the international coalition to combat ISIS.

The source explained that the United States affirms its commitments to fight “terrorism” in Syria, considering that the latter considers the Syrian Democratic Forces as a military partner in this process.

According to reports, the Syrian Democratic Forces are afraid of a withdrawal of US forces from their areas of control in northeastern Syria, which prompted them to pay a visit during the past few days to Russia to meet with Russian officials, in an effort to find an ally in the event that Washington decided to withdraw its forces from Syria along the lines of withdrawal from Afghanistan.
