Erdogan and Putin meet in Astana to discuss the latest developments in the Syrian file
“TASS” Russian News Agency confirmed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, will meet today, Wednesday, in the Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana.
This meeting comes during Erdogan’s participation in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which will be held on July 3-4.
According to the agency, Erdogan and Putin will meet on the sidelines of the summit and will discuss the latest developments in Syria during the meeting.
Russian Presidential Assistant Yury Ushakov said that Putin will hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Astana, including the leaders of China and Turkey and other leaders.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is scheduled to be held in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on July 3-4, under the slogan “boosting multilateral dialogue – seeking to achieve sustainable peace and development”. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, will also participate in it.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an international organization was founded in 2001, and included India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.
In July 2023, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in New Delhi, Iran became a full member of the organization, and there Belarus signed a memorandum of commitments in order to obtain the status of a member state of the organization. Belarus is expected to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the summit which will be held this July.
